Our HOA recently formed a Neighborhood Watch Group in which we kicked it off with a Crime Prevention/Safety Tips townhall meeting with the Irvine Police Department (see below). And as part of this effort, Neighborhood “Crime Watch” metal signs have been posted at all major entry streets into our HOA community, which have shown to act as a deterrent to potential crimes.

We recorded our townhall meeting with Irvine Police Department's Community Outreach officers in which you can view this and other recorded townhalls on our HOA's YouTube channel at Youtube.com/@ranchosanjoaquinhoa. Also view Irvine PD's presentation slides here.
Townhall recorded highlights:
If you see suspicious behavior at a neighbor's home, or elsewhere in our community, call Irvine PD's non-emergency number:

Some RSJ neighbors already look out for each other when someone on their street is out of town. But a neighborhood watch group is a way to formalize and include everyone who wants to help stay vigilant in our community.
Being a block captain doesn't require much time in which each block captain serves as a “communication hub” by sharing information when someone on their street will be on vacation or out of town for an extended amount of time, leaving their home empty. The block captain shares that information – usually by email – with his/her neighbors so that everyone can keep an eye out for any suspicious activity at the vacant home and report it to the Irvine PD.
So far, we have block captains for these streets:
If you just moved to one of the above streets, send us an email and we'll let your block captain know to include you on any communications for your street.
Because of our HOA community's large size we are seeking block captains for various street locations in our community!
Send an email to [email protected] to volunteer to be a block captain!
The Irvine Police has written a number of useful quick-read documents on various crime prevention and safety tips, of which some are posted below. To view a complete list of Irvine PD crime and safety tips, visit their Crime Prevention and Community Outreach webpage.
